REPAIRED John Speed 1611 Map of Bedford Shire, England Original Black and White Engraving

Featuring classic calligraphy and an elegant border, John Speed’s map of Bedford Shire and the situations of Bedford, previously apart of the atlas “The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britane”, first published in 1611. This map was engraved by Flemish cartographer and engraver Jodocus Hondius, accredited on the bottom center-left of the piece along with the date of 1610. Accredited for this map as well is publisher of the atlas, English cartographer and historian, John Speed.

This map measures approximately 21.5” x 17.5” and is in a very used condition, even for its age. This map is worn, folded and teared, around the edges and the middlemost crease where it had been in the atlas previous, with minor missing gaps in the paper that do not greatly affect the viewing of the image. The paper itself sports light foxing, and all damages have been photographed for your convenience. This piece has been repaired on the most extensive damage of the piece, and sustains old tape that could not be removed for the quality safety of the image. Photos have been taken of each repair and are included in the gallery of this product.

The map pictured is the map you will receive. Please examine all photos closely before purchasing.
