1863 John Flamsteed Cassiopea ( Cassiopeia ), Cephus ( Cepheus ), Ursa Minor, Draco Celestial Chart

Celestial Chart of constellations Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Ursa Minor, and Draco, taken from the posthumously published Atlas Coelestis by John Flamsteed, with overlaying illustrations by James Thornhill. Published originally in 1729 in London, this constellation chart is from a later 1863 printing of the atlas and has been hand colored modernly by the late professor and historian John Duncan. This celestial chart is well made, one of the most accurate depictions of its time period, created off of the first English Royal Astronomer John Flamsteed’s findings. The man would pass away just shortly before he was able to complete and publish his work, and the Atlas was published ten years following his passing by his wife, with the aid of his assistant Joseph Crosthwait.

This piece is in a fair condition for its age, with some damage to the centerfold and wear from where it has been folded repeatedly over the years. Measuring approximately 21.5” x 29”, this piece shows the most damage along its edges, with minor tears through the margins and a missing top left corner. The edges of the chart show signs of discoloration and foxing, but it does not impact the visuals of the chart itself. This piece has been repaired in the past, and shows signs of previous tape jobs on the back, which has not been removed in order to preserve the quality of the image. All imperfections have been included in close up images for your convenience.

The chart pictured is the one you will receive. Please examine all photos closely before purchasing.
