The National Parachute or John Bull conducted to Plenty & Emancipation Description of this early etching is from the British Museum Prints & Drawings bibliography: "Pitt stands beside John Bull in a basket, inscribed 'Sinking Fund', which is attached to an elaborate pagoda-like parachute. On the apex of the parachute is a solid ball or weight inscribed 'Mill pr Annum at Interest & Compd I(nterest). From this floats upwards into the clouds a tattered ribbon inscribed 'National Debt'" In the right corner England is shown as Land of Emancipation with Union Jack flying. Note that unless the parachute moves to the right it will sink into the ocean. The image is 10 x 14 1/2 inches and has original hand color. Elsewhere in UK in 2003 it was offered for 932 pounds.
