Whitefield's Orphan House, or Bethesda College steel engraving, 1847. This is the first orphanage established in the United States. It was started by George Whitefield, a Church of England theologian. The image is from A History of Georgia by the Rev. William Bacon Stevens, M.D. vol. 1. Bethesda is still in existence. The paper size is 9 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.
